‘In the state of Jharkhand, #India, young girls aged 8 to 18 descend each day into the Earth’s depths, where coal blackens their hands and their dreams. Under the weight of machines and the shadow of major industries, they work, bound together by a destiny that escapes them. But at times, a spark ignites: Dance.
Each step, each movement, becomes a breath of freedom amid the dust and deafening noise. Through this act of grace, they defy the injustice of a voracious system, casting light upon the darkness of an industry that devours their childhood. Their bodies express a luminous hope, fragile yet unyielding, like a glimmer of light emerging from the depths’.
I am deeply honoured to have been awarded this grant for my work in India, supported by Kodak Professional Europe and Carmencita Lab for the photography project. This includes a short film, currently in production. For more information, contact studio@claudiarevidat.com.
